Q. When does the tenant fee ban come into force?
A. As of 1st June 2019 the Tenant Fee Bill will become law.
Q. Does the tenant fee ban apply to Landlords? A. Absolutely, it applies to anyone letting out a property.
Q. So what does that mean for me as a Landlord?
A. It means you will not be able to charge a tenant for anything other than Rent, Security & Holding deposit!
Q. What about references and credit checks, can I charge a fee for this? A. No, you cannot charge for this
Q. How about inventories, can I charge for this? A. No, you cannot charge for this
Q. Can I charge for late rent?
A. A late rent payment cannot be charged unless 14 days have passed since the rent was due. Late rent charges will be capped at 3% above the Bank of England base rate; currently at 0.75%
